Another month has passed and I continued my steady upward swing for 2008. Ironically, I was incredibly busy with other aspects of my life and I did not work nearly as hard this month as I have in previous months. I am not really surprised at my numbers however since search engine rankings are usually based on archived links. I think it was just a matter of being rewarded for work I had done in the first quarter of the year.

Here are the numbers…

$2696.27 in Sales
- 313.20 in Expenses
= $2383.07 in Net Revenue

$2383.07 / 30 Days in April = $79.43 Average Profit Per Day

It is always fun to set new records, but the only downside is that I am well short of $200 per day. This is a little disappointing, but as long as I am making progress then I can live with it.

I am launching another couple of projects in April that I hope will add to the bottom line. It usually takes a while to see results with SEO, but it would be nice to find a hot product right off the bat. I’ll need it if I am going to reach my goal by June…

The past couple of months have been pretty good for me. I have racked up several $100+ days and I also received my first $1000 check from Clickbank. It is a pretty good feeling to see those kinds of numbers come in, but I still get sporadic days where sales are poor. This is what makes internet marketing such an emotional roller coaster ride. While it can be frustrating at times, nothing beats checking your stats first thing in the morning to find $100 in credits from the day before!

I have to be realistic here folks – I am not sure the $200 a day goal will be realized by June 1st. So far my best month averaged about $50 a day, which of course means I would need to quadruple that effort. I am continuing to experiment with new strategies in hopes of finding another substantial revenue stream, but I just don’t know if it will happen by June. The thing about it is…I don’t really care! I would love to hit my goal but the fact is that I am making progress and the internet has provided me with some much needed extra money. As long as things continue to grow I will be happy.

This isn’t a post about me quitting on my goal. It is just me reflecting on the reality of the situation. My internet business may never reach $200 a day, but it is on pace to triple my earnings from 2007. Although this won’t put a Ferrari in my garage, it might be enough to help move my family into a bigger house.

I set some new milestones in the month of February, both in total revenue and average per day. The beginning of the month started off relatively tame, but everything after Valentines Day was amazing. I was pulling in sporadic sales from websites I haven’t touched in months. I guess it was a case of the old saying “when it rains it pours”. So even though I am happy with my new records, I also know that there was some luck involved. Either way it is nice to post some progress.
Here are the numbers…

$1953.95 in Sales

Hopefully I can keep the hot streak alive!

I invested some money in my two new projects for January but neither site has yet to produce a consistent stream of revenue. Not really surprising since I am targeting long-range SEO goals, but it would be nice to show more ROI to date.

Anyway, here are the numbers…

Although I did have a couple of $100 days this month, my average is still well short of $200 per day. I need to stay focused and energized if I am going to reach my goal.

I wasn’t sure what level of expectation to have going into December. While we all know that online shopping increases for the holidays, very few of the products I promote would be considered gifts or holiday-related.

As it turns out, December was relatively steady with the exception of the 24th through the 28th, which were pathetic. This doesn’t really surprise me, but it always stings to wake up and read your sales reports on these types of days.

I am excited for the first quarter of 2008. I have heard that traffic picks up this time of year due to people being stuck inside, so I am hopeful it will lead to more sales!

Here are the stats for December…

$1190.94 in Sales
- 141.51 in Expenses
= $1049.43 in Net Revenue

$1049 / 30 Days in November = $33.85 Average Profit Per Day

This is a small increase from November, but nothing to get excited about. I have my work cut out for me to reach $200 a day by summer.

Don’t worry though…I have some aces up my sleeve

$937 / 30 Days in November = $31.23 Average Profit Per Day

Here are the factors that led to a drop in sales…
- A high paying affiliate offer I promoted was cancelled.
- One of my affiliates increased their cost to the consumer leading to lower conversions.
- One of my domain names/websites was closed down due to a copyright infringement (more on this some other day).
- Traffic across my network of sites was down about 20%.

Here are some of the things that caused a spike in expenses…
- I paid $114 advanced annual payment for another hosting account. I’m expanding!
- I paid $60 advanced quarterly payment for a PO Box.
- I purchased a $39 wordpress plugin that allows me to easily add eBay listings to my blogs.

Obviously I am disappointed with the bottom line, but I have used this month to invest significantly into new projects. Hopefully they will begin to produce some revenue in December and get me back on the right track.

It is funny; now that I have had some consistent success, my expectations are much higher. I am thankful that revenue has increased, but what I really want is to take that next step in affiliate marketing. I want to get past this $1000 mark I am stuck at and start making some bigger strides.

I am going to use November to concentrate on tweaking my game plan in hopes of building income faster. I had some situations at home this month that prevented me from doing all the work I wanted, but I am hopeful this month will be better. I just need to stay away from the distractions!

I just completed the first week of my “strategy for success”. I am trying to balance my work flow better so that I can be more efficient and spread my efforts across more sites. The long-term goal of this new strategy is to develop several consistent streams of income while building a formula that can be applied to new projects.

My strategy for success serves two main purposes…

First, it makes sure that all of my sites get at least some content and promotional updates each month. I have weighted the schedule so that my primary money sites receive twice as much attention as my secondary sites. This is still a significant upgrade for my secondary projects. In the past I only updated them when it was convenient, which was not very often.

The second benefit of following this strategy is staying organized. It is too easy to lose track of the updates and promotional methods you have tried across several different sites. Now I have a monthly checklist that will make sure that all of my projects receive a consistent flow of both content and promotion.

I have also allowed plenty of time each month to work on new projects. I would like to develop a new affiliate website every month from here on out. I know that this will eventually lead to too many sites for one person to manage, but I have a plan for that as well.

Sometime in the first quarter of 2008 I am going to measure the performance of all my projects side-by-side. From there I will focus on the winners and begin to phase out the losers. The timing of this deadline will have given me about 3 months to analyze the potency of my success strategy. Hopefully I will find that a few sites have grown into reliable revenue streams. The winners will then become the focus of my efforts, while the losers will likely end up for sale on the DigitalPoint forums. Once I drop the dead weight I will continue with the strategy, but instead of wasting time with the loser sites, I will spend those efforts on new projects.

Sounds good on paper doesn’t it? Of course the x-factor lies within the success strategy formula. I have based it all on what worked for my most profitable website. But even though I was successful in that venture, it doesn’t mean the tactics are transferable. It all remains to be seen, but if my instincts are right, then I should see significant income growth for 2008.
